Virginia Truck Driving FAQ

How old do I have to be to get my CDL?
In Virginia, you have to be at least 18 years old to obtain your CDL. But remember, that is just to drive within the state of Virginia. If you want to drive in between many different states, you need to be at least 21 years old.

When I go to apply for my instruction permit, what all do I have to bring?
You will need to bring:

-At least two forms of identification
-Proof of legal presence in the country
-Proof of Virginian residency
-Social security card

Remember that you will need to bring the real deals. They will not accept photocopies or any documents that they feel is forged or altered in any way.
